Before I get into it, check my want list here and get in touch if you have any of these. I posted a full discography here. Also, be sure to check out Part 1 here.
In 1982, the Mystic Records studio would have recording credits for punk rock notables Angry Samoans, Youth Brigade, and The Lewd. Also, the majority of the songs for the seminal punk compilation Someone Got Their Head Kicked In were recorded there and Mystic also put out their own punk compilation called You Can’t Argue With Sucksess.
Compared to other years, 1982 was a relatively slow year for Mystic Records since its inception, but it gave us a few notable punk or punk-ish records:
Powertrip Lab Animal 7” Mystic Records, 1982
Vox Pop The Band The Myth The Volume LP Mystic Records, 1982
Mentors S/T AKA Trash Bag LP Mystic Records, 1982
Deprogrammer S/T LP Mystic Records, 1982
There were a couple non-punk Mystic releases in 1982. This is a pretty decent psych’y rock record…
Satch S/T Mystic Records, 1982
Finally, here’s one of the weirder records that ever came out on Mystic - the Stickball 7”. Doug Moody told me it was a gag record created by the son of a Brooklyn mob boss. It’s hard to explain, so I’d advise you to just listen to it - that is, if you’re not at work and there isn’t anyone impressionable around.
There appear to be a few different versions of this, but the Mystic one came out in 1982.
In 1983, things really get rollin’ for Mystic. To be continued…
