Killer episode this week on the pod. Check it out here, here, or here and check the playlist here or here.
RIP Big Frank
Frank was a true friend of the pod who was always open to field my nerd questions about ‘80s Hardcore. He will be missed dearly. The original intent of this podcast was to document people I respected in their own voices. It feels too real when something like this happens but I’m really glad that everyone can go back and listen to Frank on the pod and see what a cool dude he was.
RIP Paul Cripple
I didn’t know Paul at all but he was really generous with his time and I’m happy we got him documented on the pod. We really have to give respect to these early pioneers of Punk and Hardcore when they open up about these tiny windows of their life. It’s got to be a trip when some asshole only wants to ask about a four year span of your life 40 years ago, so we gotta tip our hat when they entertain us.
I’ve made an effort in the last couple years to get out and see the OG bands when they come through town. I saw Stiff Little Fingers, GBH, The Adicts, and I’m sure one or two I’m forgetting off the top of my head, and they all were excellent. What makes this music special beyond the tunes is the roots and the building blocks that created the immense history of this thing. It’s like sitting with a good album and reading the lyric sheet. Sure the songs can kick ass on their own, but sitting with the words makes it a deeper experience.
RIP to these legends.
I’m pretty burnt on writing so this will be a pretty quick supplement to this week’s podcast.
Hindsight Demo ‘24, Rebirth Records
Demo of the year contender. ‘nuff said. Buy here.
V/A One Scene Unity Volume 4, From Within Records
Fav tracks: Scarab, Collateral, Terminator, Blow Your Brains Out
They’re on the episode playlist.
Order here.
Steamroll Demo ‘24, Rebirth Records
If you like that early 2000s Lockin’ Out Records sound, this is your favorite band. The demo already sold out. You snooze, you lose.
Poison Idea Get Loaded And Fuck, TKO Records
The EP formerly known as the Ian Mackaye record is back in press and most importantly on streaming. It compiles the Fithkick 7” (minus The Damned cover) and the Getting The Fear 12” + one exclusive track to this album. It’s mostly fabulous tracks from one of the greatest Hardcore Punk bands of all time. Get it here.
I was joined by Chubby Charles of Chubby & the Gang who just put out a new LP last Friday. It rules. Get it here.
Have a killer week.
